Happy Belated Hallo, Weenies!

We did a scary-fairy-tale-themed haunted house at our friend's place for Halloween, and it was a HIT (despite our lackadaisical planning session). It helps that our friend lives in a neighborhood that is super popular for trick-or-treating (I had never heard of "trick-or-treat commuting" before, but apparently it's a thing here in SoCal) - at some points in the night there were literally (and I don't use that word lightly) streams of children coming down the sidewalk. It was so much fun.

I was supposed to be one of Goldilocks' three bears, but Toby and I were lazy about buying costumes and went super last minute...not a bear-themed accessory was to be found. So I bought a Domo costume. Best choice ever. I will never be more popular than I was this Halloween. I had kids calling my name across the yard, asking to take my picture, multiple group hug requests (which I fulfilled, duh), and high fives galore. However, I still have no idea what Domo is. I know it's Japanese. I've neglected to do my usual obsessive internet research like I usually do when I have a question...I think it's because I want it to remain a mystery. The mysteriousness of my costume's popularity only serves to make it that much more humorous.

Goldilocks, Little Red Riding Hood, and Rapunzel's hair (the first part of the haunted house is the Prince calling out to Rapunzel, and then yanking on her hair and pulling her head off - it falls out of the window and the Prince shoves it in the kids' faces)

Ten minutes of story time with the Old Prospector, and Toby the Big Bad Wolf is already asleep.
It was a long night for the poor guy.
Hope your Halloween was as fun as mine!

Happy Thursday, y'all.

  1. Haha, I absolutely love everything about this post, and for some reason the caption "self portrait" on the photo of you in your Domo costume (no idea who that is either!) made me laugh a lot.

    1. I laughed so hard after I took that self-portrait! I was laughing nonstop almost all night, because that costume was so ridiculous.

  2. This looks like it was so much fun, and so clever! I have always wanted to do a haunted house for Halloween and the fairy tale spin takes it to a whole new level. Love the Rapunzel hair-head scenario!

Your costume was awesome too! Although, I don't know what Domo is either....

    1. Man, I think all of us are too old to get it...only the elementary school kids and teeny boppers were cool enough to know what was going on with my costume.

  3. Wow. All that you've set up looks great! And I love the dead fairy tale theme. Looking at all your photos made me wish I had gone trick or treating in your neighborhood. Lol.

    1. It made me wish I could've gone back to my childhood and gone trick-or-treating there too! My neighborhood never had anything as cool as what we did. I'm lucky to have tons of creative friends who came up with all of the ideas - my contribution was wandering around in my Domo costume taking pictures, haha.
