Dancers Among Us

A couple of days ago, Toby was clicking through StumbleUpon, one of his favorite internet stomping grounds, and he discovered a blog displaying a bunch of photographs from a series named "Dancers Among Us".

The series is by photographer Jordan Matter, who says that the inspiration for these photos came from watching his son playing with his toys:

“What happens to this enthusiasm, this ability to be wholly present in the moment? Why are these pure moments of passion so often replaced with cynicism, boredom, and indifference? As I played with my son, I thought about creating photographs that would show the world as if through his eyes. The people in the images would be alive and in the moment, celebrating all aspects and emotions of everyday life."

He decided to use dancers as his storytellers, and thus "Dancers Among Us" was born. Looking through the photos, I had a hard time choosing with ones to show in this post; all of them are so unique and each of them tell such a different story. It's enthralling. Here are a few of the ones I liked the most:

I told you I had a hard time choosing.

There are so many more to see, though, so go check them out!

Someday, I shall do a photo series as cool as this.

Happy Tuesday!

  1. Amazing :O I'm going to buy one of the prints! Side note: when I was younger I always wished I was dancer, so that I could "trip" in public and gracefully go into one of the moves from those photos haha

    1. I was in dance when I was a little, little kid, and I quite because I hated being told what to do - I wanted to do my own dance moves, damn it! But now I'm super sad I didn't keep doing it, because I am convinced I would have loved it. Damn you, independent tiny Rachel!
