Does your room ever look like this?

Because that is my room.  And it looks like this. Often.

And that's nothin'. Wanna know how bad I used to be?

That's my bedroom at my parents' house, circa 2007. Luckily, I'm also fairly good at cleaning it up...when I get around to it:

Imagine a combination of those two messes, and you've got a pretty good representation of how I've been feeling about life lately. In other words, I may or may not be suffering from a little thing called Being Overwhelmed. If you know me well, then you know that overwhelmedness is not a rare occurrence. When I start to feel this way, I usually do a couple of things.

First, I talk to my mama. Never fails.

Then, I take deep breaths and do something that reminds me why life is good. Like go up on the roof and stand in the sunshine and smile because I can see downtown Minneapolis from my apartment, and spring weekends in the Twin Cities are fabulous.

Shadow puppets on the street with Toby...see us? Please note the Storm Trooper in that window on the left...

Sometimes I forget it's a Storm Trooper, and I think it's a person standing perfectly still and staring out the window for a prolonged period of time. Cuh-reeeepay.

And another thing that makes life good? Random acts of kindness. This morning I volunteered for the first time at the Minneapolis Farmers Market (super awesome). Afterwards I got into my car, threw it into reverse, glanced in the rearview mirror, and saw a flash of red.

I don't know who put it there, but it's pretty, and it made me happy. So thank you, unknown person.

Anyway...I started writing this post a few days ago, so it's a bit all over the place, but I think I'll leave it where it's at. I'm still pretty overwhelmed....but I'm also happy. I've been trying to soak up the positive wherever I find it, and it's helped me remember that things are where they're supposed to be. Earlier this week the forecast for today was rainy, but it ended up being sunny and warm. Life is good.

P.S. Another one of my photos was used in an LAist article! Hot diggity.
