Days Like This

Suggested listening: Van Morrison - Days Like This

Yesterday, I spent the day at the beach with my friend Sarah. Clear, blue skies soared above us, the sun's rays gently caressed our skin, and the ocean churned and smashed into the sand a few hundred feet away. I napped, caught up on some reading, and, most importantly, ate lots of candy and worked on my "tan" (otherwise known as "attempted to make my skin be a normal kind of white instead of translucent").

I felt like I was on vacation. Hopefully this is only the start of many similar beach days to come. Even though there aren't technically seasons here, I've still felt the mood start to shift towards summer; the beaches are slightly more crowded, the days are consistently warmer, and scarves and boots are disappearing and being replaced with sundresses and flip flops. It's nice to know that I can still mentally feel like it's summer even though I didn't have to wait for any snow to melt first.

The telescope said "FOCUS" on it, which I thought was pretty nifty.
The beach will forever be my happy place. And it's so fantastic to know that in the midst of a million other dreams I am trying to fulfill, living near the ocean is one that I actually made happen. Yesterday, I savored it. Life is about the little achievements you make along the path to a bigger and better future. It is all about the journey. I often lose sight of that, but right now, it's all I can think about. Right now, I'm grateful and happy for all that I have been able to do thus far.

My mama told me there'd be days like this.

Happy Monday, friends.
